Downloaded some old albums today. It was quite nice. Took me back to Jr high/high school...downloaded that Camp Lo, Soundbombing 2, Gangstarr (moment of truth). Man, they bring back old memories. That Soundbombing 2 was a epic during it's time...one of the sickest mixtapes that came out. That whole line up in that mixtape was ridiculous. Mos, Kweli, Shaadiq, Pharoahe, Babs, Jrocc...fire. Music is essential.
Album review: The Roots - Rising Down "Darkest Roots album to date" says a Blender writer. And to that writer, I have to agree. The beginning of the album is very interesting to the fact that each of the members are blaming each other for the band's shortcomings and right from there, the album gets gritty and grimy. "Rising Down" ft mos and styles P sets the album's mood. Simple beat w/ some synth keys and continuous rumbling bass effect. Don't get me wrong, the album is not all grimy...it has those quintessential Roots tracks (i.e. Rising Up), but overall, it's darker and something you should knock your head to...raw beats, ill rhymes...authentic hip hop. Out of 5 stars/mics/or whatever the hell you want to use...i give it a 3.5-4. Solid effort by Illadelph Halflife Crew.
Started off the day walking down Columbus to rent some bikes. Got the bikes and had lunch at the Wharf. Shrimp and chips and some chowder son!
After lunch, started heading out down the path towards the Golden Gate Bridge. The trek was chill except for some minor hills. The GG Bridge is ridiculously dope and views were amazing. Ended our ride in Sausilito...place is mad posh like La Jolla. Took the ferry back to the Wharf and biked back to the rental spot.
Legs were burning after the whole trek...but there was more walking in store. Headed over to Haight/Ashbury. Checked out some shops and whatnot then headed back to the hotel. Chilled for a bit, then later headed to dinner. Went to some Korean bbq spot in Inner Richmond. It was aight, but it did the trick after the long day. Korean bbq in SF has nothing on Kbbq in OC...holla! After dinner...knocked the fuck out...day 2 complete.
day 2 p.s. dude in the cab on the way to kbbq was rankin' yo...B.O. for daaaays
...and now the last day
Chill day. Woke up and went to Union Square one more time. Stopped by Urban, Aldo and other spots. Ate at the thai spot where we went the first time w/ the gang. After all that...checked out and took the BART to the airport (I wish we had a good public transit system).
Waited at the airport for a bit, then headed out back to LA. The trip was relaxing, fun and amazing to say the least. Next stop....NYC
Day 1 in the Bay Area:I here declare that Virgin America is the BEST airline out there. Who lets you watch tv, make your own playlists, play video games and map your flight progess?! Virgin America, that's who.
Sha and I left at 840am, got there a little before 10am...faster than her commuting to LA for work, crazy huh?
Got here, dropped our bags off and headed out for a walk. Walked through Chinatown and Union Square. The weather is beautiful today. Nice and sunny w/ a cool breeze...that's the Bay boyyyyyeee.
Also went to Huf and picked up a Huf fitted and tee. Met a cool cat/worker named Fix at Huf. Dude was mad cool, just rappin' w/ us and whatnot. Huf es la siempre fresco. After that, just came back to the hotel and chilled before dinner.
Ended up going to this Wayo Sushi off Van Ness and Bush. Found it on Yelp. It was alright. Mom and pop joint...not much selection, but it did the job. After dinner, didn't know what to do so we went to go watch Iron Man. All I have to say...TOP 2 (between it and Batman Begins) comic adaptions EVER!! Robert Downey Jr was born to play this roll. If you go watch it....wait for the credits to end.
So the night ended after the movie. Too beat to go out and drink and dance, =T. Good 1st day.
